The Colorado Story
From many paths, one home.
Hope brought us here. Home is what we build together.
Across Colorado, people come with the same hope: to put down roots, care for their families, and build a future.
These stories are not just immigrant stories.
They are Colorado stories, stories of belonging, resilience, and the communities we build together every day.
Colorado has always been shaped by people who came here searching for possibilities.
From farmers and teachers to small business owners and healthcare workers, generations of people have built their lives here through hard work, care for their communities, and belief in a better future.
Immigrants are part of that same story.
They are neighbors, coworkers, parents, and leaders helping shape the Colorado we all share.
When we recognize the hopes we share: safety, stability, dignity, and opportunity, we begin to see that the Colorado story has always been a shared one.
Meet the People Who Write Colorado’s Story Every Day
Across the state, immigrants contribute their skills, creativity, and care to the communities they call home. These stories reveal what it means to build a life here, moments of hope, the realities of exploitation, and the power of finding belonging despite it all.
Luis came to Colorado with hope, but quickly encountered a system that exploited his labor, working long hours and being denied pay because of his status. His story reflects how easily hard work can be taken advantage of when protections are out of reach. Still, he’s building something of his own, creating stability and connection for his family.
Sandra has spent 30 years working, raising her children, and contributing to her community, yet remains trapped in a system that keeps her in uncertainty. Her story highlights the emotional toll and quiet abuse of living without stability or a path forward. Even so, she continues to find belonging through community and care for others.
Marge’s family built a life in California, until it was taken from them through forced incarceration during World War II. Her story reveals how entire communities can be exploited and stripped of dignity by unjust systems. Today, she transforms that history into healing and education, helping others understand what belonging truly requires.
What We Share
What connects us as Coloradans, our shared hopes, struggles, and commitment to one another, is stronger than the divisions too often sown by politicians.
Shared Aspirations
We all want the same things: safety, dignity, and the chance to build a stable and joyful life for our families and future generations.
Economic Fairness
Immigrants help power Colorado’s economy—as entrepreneurs, essential workers, and innovators. When we ensure fair treatment and opportunity for every worker, we strengthen the entire workforce and ensure prosperity is shared, not hoarded.
Dignity and Belonging
Everyone who calls Colorado home deserves to feel safe, valued, and respected. Communities thrive when people know they belong.
Collective Strength
Colorado’s rich mix of cultures and experiences is one of its greatest strengths. When every person has the opportunity to contribute, our state becomes more vibrant, resilient, and united.
When Hope Meets Barriers
Colorado has long been seen as a place of possibility, a place where hard work can lead to opportunity and where communities grow stronger together.
But too often, that promise is out of reach.
Workers who help power our economy face low wages, unsafe conditions, and barriers to stability.
Families who contribute to their communities are too often treated as outsiders.
When systems fail to match people’s hard work with real opportunity, it doesn’t just impact individuals; it affects entire communities.
Even when the promise falls short, what connects us as Coloradans, our values, our work, and our care for one another, remains stronger than the divisions we’re often told to see.
